Project Bubblepuppy

This 2002 film is based on a true story about a German Scientist, Count S. von Teleki who built a mysterious 3-wheeled vehicle called “Welpe Luft-Blassen” (BubblePuppy) during World War II.  No one knows where the machine is now but the vehicle used for the film was built from memory after seeing the original blue prints.

Quadrophenia

In this 1979 film starring Sting, a Reliant Regal 3/30 saloon is seen at the beach front.

 

Robocop - Resurrection

In the four follow up Robocop films (2002), Piaggio Apes fitted as as Police vehicles can be seen at the beginning of the third episode. (“Resurrection”)

Rotten to the Core

In the film Rotten to the Core' a gang of useless bank robbers escape in a Leeds registered Isetta (4099 MW) by driving over a footbridge over which the pursuing police car could not follow.

 

Soft Top, Hard Shoulder

In this 1992 Scottish film a Bond Minicar (Mk F) Reg number NSD 873 makes a brief appearance to give a short lift to the two main characters & their luggage.

 

Spiderman

In the 2002 adaption of the film during a scene where Harry Osborn and his father are driving, a fully loaded Piaggo Ape can clearly be seen in the background.

Star Wars

In the original 1977 Star Wars film, the “Land Speeder” that was driven by Luke Skywalker was actually built around the chassis of a Bond Bug to form a 3-wheeled vehicle.  The wheels were later masked out on the film to produce the hover-car that we see in the film. Mirrors were also used on the underside to create the effect of it hovering above the ground.

 

Bedazzled

This 1961 film starring Peter Cooke (as the Devil) and Dudley Moore (who has sold his soul to the aforementioned Devil) . In the opening scene, the girl of Dudley's dreams gets into an Isetta 3 wheeler driven by her boyfriend Randy and drives off.

 

Strictly for Pleasure

This 1958 film with Tony Curtis and  Janet Leigh features a Messerschmitt.

 

The Belles of St. Trinians

In this 1954 film starring Alastair Sim and George Cole the girls of St. Trinians go on holiday and one of the teachers drives an Isetta in the convoy.

 

The Cat in the Hat

In this 2003 film starring Mike Myers, Dakota Fanning, Alec Baldwin, and Kelly Preston based on Dr Suess’ book, a 3-wheeler called S.L.O.W (Super Luxurious Omnidirectional Whatchamajigger) features throughout the film driven by the cat. SLOW was an actual vehicle created for the film which also featured another 3-wheeler called D.I.R.T ((Dynamic Industrial Renovating Tractormajigger)  driven by cat in the hat and two smaller versions driven by Thing 1 and Thing 2, whilst cleaning up the house.

The Day after tomorrow

In this 2004 film a couple of Tuk-Tuks are seen at the start of the film just before a giant hale stone storm.

The Horse in the Grey flannel suit

In this 1968 Disney movie starring Dean Jones and Kurt Russell, Kurt Russell drives a red Morgan that tows a horse trailer.

 

The Krays

In this 1989 film about the Kray twins starring Martin Kemp and Gary Kemp a red Reliant Regal Mk V is seen.

 

The Man in the Moon

This black and white movie featured Kenneth Moore driving a Messerschmitt KR201 Roadster. The car crashes under the back of a lorry in the film and the shots after the crash feature a KR175 under the lorry.

 

The Omega Connection

In 1979 Walt Disney film features a red Morgan that is driven by Kurt Russell.

 

The One

In this 2002 film starring Jet Li, one of his characters (as he plays two different characters that have different fighting styles) is nearly run over by a Corbin Sparrow near the end of the movie.

The Party

In the 1968 film “The Party” starring Pete Sellers, a Morgan with a JAP engine can be seen at the start and at the ending of the film.

 

The Rock

In this film starring Nicholas Cage, Ed Harris and Sean Connery. An unknown 3-wheeler is crushed by a Humvee 4x4 in a car chase involving Cage and Connery.

The Spy who loved me

In this classic 1977 James Bond film starring Roger Moore a Piaggio Ape can be spotted crossing the street behind Bond’s Lotus Esprit just before he gets chased by a baddie on a motorcycle.

 

The Transporter

Starring Jason Stratham, this slick action thriller is full of car chases and martial arts. Set in France, Statham plays Frank Martin a driver for hire. Being paid for transporting goods and/or people on a no questions asked basis. A 3-wheeled milk truck was seen doing its rounds. Possibly a Piaggio.

To Sir with Love

In this 1967 film starring Sidney Poitier and Lulu a Bond Mk C or appears at the start of the film and again later on.

 

Toast

In this 2010 BBC movie based on Nigel Slater’s book of the same name about his child hood days, a Reliant Regal MK VI van was used by the elderly gardener.  The van used was my van, more information about the filming can be seen here.

 

Total Recall

In the Arnold Schwarzenegger film, Total Recall, a Trimuter was used as a back ground vehicle during the film.

 

Under Suspicion

In this 2000 film set in Britain in the late 1950's/1960, two perhaps three 3-wheelers were spotted. Firstly a yellow Heinkel was briefly seen parked at the side of the road, more prominent was a three-wheeled United Dairies milkf loat which causes one of the characters to crash as it pulls out in front of his Wolseley. The third is questionable - a red Isetta is seen parked outside Neeson's office, though the camera angle prevents us from seeing if it was the three or four-wheeled variety

Upstairs Downstairs

n the 1959 film 'Upstairs & Downstairs' starring Sid James and James Robertson Justice a Messerschmitt KR200 is used by the characters.

 

Who am I

In this 1998 Martial Arts film Jackie Chan is seen driving a FunTech 50.  More interesting is at the end of the film when they show the out takes.  In one out take Jackie Chan corners the Funtech too quickly and it starts to tip and suddenly you see Jackie Chan jump/fall out of it.

 

Willy-Busch-Report

A 1979 German film with Tilo Prückner and features a Messerschmitt.
