My thanks go to Jeff Butler for this photo and letter of his fathers. Jeff writes:
I have attached a photo of the vehicle along with a copy of the letter of praise from Reliant ... There is also a booklet sent by Reliant titled
The Concept & Development of the Reliant, with quite a bit of historical information in it. Unfortunately the photo doesnt show all the relevant parts of the car that Dad made but it was designed on the Morris
Traveller theme and had double opening doors at the rear which cant be seen. I don't know what the fate of the vehicle was after it was sold but if by some miracle it is still around it would be one of a kind and
presumably worth something. I distinctly remember him building it and the fact that he had to weigh every part in order to keep the vehicle under the 8 cwt gross weight.
The letter is dated 21st December 1962 and says the following:
Dear Sir,
We were extremely interested to have your letter of the 12th inst., together with the photograph of your Reliant vehicle, and we would like to
commend your skill and thought in the body construction that has been fitted to the second hand chassis.
Naturally we hope very much that the vehicle will give you a good deal of satisfaction and we very much appreciate the interest prompting you to
write to us at such length.
Your photograph is returned herewith, but should you have a duplicate we would like to have one for our files, and meantime we thought you might
like to have one of the enclosed booklets which we hope will tell you a litle more of this Company and its products.
