Founded in 1994 (California, USA) the ZAP (Zero Air Pollution) began by producing electric bicycles and scooters as an alternative means of transport other than fossil-fueled powered vehicles. In 2003 the company introduced its first electric automobiles and in 2006 introduced the 3-wheeled ZAP Xebra. Powered by an electric motor the four-seater vehicle is able to reach 40mph with a range of 40miles. The vehicle has a 110v charger on board (with an optional 240v available) so that it can be recharged at any electrical point. The Xebra weighs 1500lbs.
In 2008 two new 3-wheeler vehicles were introduced, the Zap Truck and the Zap Alias.
Powered by a single electric engine the Zap Truck is capable of 40 mph (65 kmh) and up to 25 miles on a single charge.
In complete contrast the Zap Alias is a 156 mph (251.06 kmh) sports car capable of doing 0 - 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. Powered by two electric engines the vehicle is able to achieve up to 100 miles on each charge It is planned to go on sale in the USA from 2009.
