Westward Industries Ltd. was founded in 1989 by Larry Mauws in Canada. Mr. Mauws designed and built the first model of the GO-4 to fill a need in the marketplace for a reliable, manoeuvrable, comfortable and efficient vehicle for use by police departments for parking patrol.
Since introduction the vehicle design has been modified to meet the changing needs of its customers and demands for environmentally friendly products. The G0-4 has a number of bodies that includes Parking Patrol, Van, Dumper and Flat bed. The bodies are made of aluminium panels fixed to a tubular steel frame and cab with sliding metal doors. Power comes from a 55hp fuel injected Hyundai engine that is located behind the driver whilst the top speed is electronically governed from factory at 40mph.
Whilst the vehicle has many accessories including Air Conditioning and back up alarm to alert others that the vehicle is reversing it also features an LTI unit as standard. Borrowed from the aerospace industry the LTI unit measures lateral “G” force and will notify the driver if the vehicle is driven at an unsafe speed around corners or is being operated on a dangerous cross slope. The G04 is currently in full production.
