The Lambert is considered to be the first petrol engined vehicle to built built in the United States of America in 1891 by John. W. Lambert. From 1904 all production Lamberts used a friction drive until 1907 when they were replaced by a shaft drive. The Lambert was powered by a small 2-cylinder engine and featured a pair of Lucas “Motor Acetyphote” acetylene-gas powered side lamps. Since 1904 these had been specifically designed for motorcycles. Production ceased in 1917.
