The B3 was designed and built by Dick Buckland of Newport, South Wales (UK). The first car 001, was built in 1985 and appeared at the Stoneleigh Kit Car Show of that year where it took the show by storm! Buckland took his inspiration from the Morgan F Type, having successfully modified and raced an F type for many years.
The B3 was all about handling, speed and lightness and based around inexpensive mechanical easy to come by mechanical parts taken from, Ford, Reliant, BMC and Datsun to name but a few. The engine and gearbox are 1300 Ford Kent units that provided the B3 with 95 bhp with a top speed of 130 mph. In addition the gearbox provided the benefit of a reverse gear. The chassis is hand crafted from Zintec steel (all Buckland's own work) with weight saving where ever possible. The suspension is in board coil over shock on front with twin wishbones and a single swinging arm with coil over shock at the rear. Drive is taken from the Ford gearbox via a short propshaft passing through a torque tube on through a bevel box and finally to a chain driving the back wheel. The body tub, bonnet and wings are fibregalss. The rear body tub lifts and hinges (at the front) to the same angle as the bonnet to facilitate access to the rear wheel and drive train. In all only 12 Buckland B3s were built spanning a period from 1985 to 1998.
