Atomette

First manufactured in 1921 by Alan Thomas of Cleveland Street, Wolverhampton the Atomette was a single seat vehicle of which only prototypes were built.  In 1922 a two seater model powered by a 343cc Villiers 2-stroke engine was introduced.  The engine was mounted just in front of the single rear wheel and drove a chain through a Burman 3-speed gearbox which had a final drive via a belt.  Weighing 280lbs the vehicle had a top speed of 30mph.   The only weather protection its occupants had was that offered by the vertical windscreen and yet, despite having no doors and real body to speak of, the Atomette had a ingenious device that allowed adjustment of the steering column rake.  Production ceased in 1922 with few vehicles being sold.
