The Argson Runnymede was manufactured in South Africa in the late 1930’s / early 1940’s and was designed as an invalid carriage. It was powered by a 174cc Villiers 2-stroke engine which had 3 speeds. During the same period the Stanley Engineering Co Ltd of Edham (Surrey, UK) built invalid carriages that were both electric and petrol powered. The electric vehicle had an arm chair type seat with tiller steering and a pram hood whilst the petrol version was a 2 cwt parcel carrier powered by a 2-stroke Villiers engine using chain drive to the near side wheel. All vehicles produced by Stanley Engineering Co. Ltd were sold under the Argson name.
