This is so rare it is the only one in the world! In fact, it was the only one ever produced!
"The Martin Staionette, designed by James V. Martin and produced by the Commonweatlh Research Corporation of Nerw York City, is
a three-wheeler powered by a rear mounted, four cylinder, 24-horsepower Hercules engine. Prototypes have been given more than 100,000 miles of testing. Martin claims that the car will average 40 Miles per gallon and
will show a top speed of 80 MPH.
This car is unique, since it eliminated many parts found in the standard car. Martins have no axles, no springs (the entire car is
suspended on rubber), no shocks, propeller shaft, u-joints, differrential gears or clutch. Transmission is by Martin Magnetic fluid drive. There is plenty of luggage space behind the 3 passenger front seat.
The Stationette's designer hopes that the car will fill the need of the suburban commuter. He claims its popular acceptance would
greatly ease traffic congestion (or cause a gapper's block!)
With rear-engine drive, The Martin offers greater leg room than that found in any standard size passenger car on the market.
Production has been announced to begin on April 1, 1954 (no joke!) The price is tentatively set at under $1,000 delivered."
Fast forward to 2005 and this great and unique piece of history has seen better times. This is a project! However, all the pieces of
wood seem to be there and for someone with talent, this will be a GREAT vehicle to own and sure to stop people at any car show. Can't wait for the guy to say his grandfather use to own one!
The engine was a Hercules and the body was built in Pa. We have a bit of documentation on this car. This car is being sold with a
low reserve as is and shown. You must make arrangements for pick-up yourself. Uncertain of correct odometer reading.
