Lucie: The 3-wheelers.com vehicle

February 2009. Part 2 of 2

The carburetor (A Solex AIC 26) has had fuel on the outside of it so I decided to take it apart and clean it up.  One thing I noticed was that it doesn’t have a top gasket though someone before has used a liquid gasket which may have been causing some issues, it certainly seems to tick over better now it is all back together again though when ever I decelerate it has a tendency to stall unless you blip the throttle.  Once stationary it will then tick over fine without any help.

People who know me know that I spend a lot of my online time on the Reliant “R3W” forum which is a great place to visit for all things Reliant.  It is especially superb for the knowledge it contains and so when I unscrewed a screw from the carburettor and realised there was nothing behind it, part of me wondered have I got something missing or should there be a hole in the side of my carburetor. It turns out that there indeed should be one, as it is believed to act as an air intake for the choke.

Another thing I also fixed purely by chance was a sticking accelerator.  Every now and then the throttle would jam full on and whilst cleaning the carburetor and disconnecting the throttle rod, I noticed that where it joins, the split pin that holds it together was actually catching against a bracket for the manifold breather pipe.  So a new split pin bent out of the way and a few taps on the bracket to move it side ways and problem solved.

Over the last few months Lucie has been doing bits of filming here and there and the first lot of this was from a filming session last September seen on BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting TV) where Lucie appears (albeit all a few seconds) in one of the media bytes.  You can see it on Youtube here.  The media clip will be running on BFBS 3 as a media byte for the new channel 3.

Towards the end of the month I have rather a fascinating package from the DVLA with copies of all the documents they currently have for Lucie dating back to 1980.  Unfortunately between 1961 and 1980 seems a bit of a mystery.  The documents they have provided however enabled me to build up a small history of Lucie.
