Dain Corn Cutter

Dain Corn Cutter

Description

Dain's Steel Safety Corn Cutter

The Dain Safety Four-Wheel Corn Cutter was made from 1896 to 1917. Dain moved his company from Carrollton to Ottumwa, IA around 1900. Dain became part of Deere and Company sometime around 1910 or 1912. Deere bought Dain for the hay equipment. The old 594 rakes from the 40's and 50's were direct descendants of the original Dain inclined frame rake. Dain's Ottumwa operations became Deere's hay equipment plant.

The corn cutting sled was the first invention that mechanized the cutting of corn. After this came the corn binder.
