1919 Racing Morgan

1919 Racing Morgan

Description

1919 Morgan MAG. TT Grand Prix. Some sites have this as a 1914 Morgan.

For 1914, HFS Morgan decided to participate in the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT) in the Cyclecar category. To do this, he prepared a “racer” (racing car) equipped with a MAG engine designed for the occasion.

This “special” MAG engine is air-cooled, with eight valves, a bore and stroke of 82 mm x 102 mm, or 1,078 cc. The gearbox is original 2 speed, as it should be with Morgan. The chassis is standard “Grand Prix” type, longer with a very low center of gravity, the rear forks of which are slightly widened to accommodate larger brake drums. This racer would have performed well but the race was canceled due to the outbreak of the First World War in 1914!

The car reappeared in 1919 for the Stile Kop hill climb. He won his category, cars with passengers, by crossing the line at more than 88 km/h.
