Volkswagen revealed their first 3-wheeler prototype in 1986 with a 3-wheeled Scooter and then in 2006 unveiled the sportier GX3 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.  The Volkswagen GX3 is a concept 3-wheeler designed by Volkswagen in California (USA). The vehicle is described as a powered by a "crossover between sports car and motorcycle”. Due to its spacef rame chassis construction and fibreglass panels, the vehicle weighs just 570kg and is able to reach 0 - 60mph in 5.7 seconds with a 1.6 litre engine.

in 2006 Volkswagen stated that “A production counterpart of the GX3 could be on the market very soon" though nothing has been mentioned since.
