The 1890 Buckeye Gas Buggy.

Buckeye

Description

Built by J.W Lambert (Indiana, USA) from 1890 the Buckye Gas Buggy was a horseless carriage with the engine positioned under the seat. Steereing was achieved by a series of levers.  Production ceased in 1904.

The color pictures here are of a friend's (friend of site owner Harry Kraemer) 1891 Lambert Buckeye recreation.

Did you know the first recorded car accident happened in 1891 in Ohio? Inventor James Lambert was driving his Buckeye gasoline buggy when he hit a tree root and collided with a hitching post. Luckily, no one was seriously injured, but the car was damaged and later burned up in a barn fire.
