1952 Reliant Regent

1952 Reliant Regent

Description

1952 Reliant Regent

The Reliant Regent was a small three-wheeled van built by the Reliant Motor Company in Tamworth, England from 1950 to 1956.

The vehicle had a lead frame made of square steel pipes. At the front, the two longitudinal beams bent upwards and supported on a single front wheel suspended from a coil spring. The front wheel was directed by a steering wheel and an axle pivot.

The Regent was fitted with a water-cooled side-valve four-cylinder engine based on the unit used in the Austin 7. It had a capacity of 747cc and generated approximately 17 bhp (12.5 kW) of output, which was transferred from an attached four-speed transmission with floor shift and a short propshaft to the rear wheels. All three wheels were fitted with mechanical drum brakes. The Regent was the Reliant vehicle that had perforated steel disc wheels.

In addition to the "large" Regent with about a 10 cwt (500 kg) payload, a smaller variant, the Reliant Prince Regent, was offered from 1952 to 1954.

A total of 2953 Regents and 247 Prince Regents were built. The vehicle was replaced in 1956 by the Regal.
